It rocked Eisenman on his chair...
It wasn't enough that Maria remained a virgin consort to a 14 year-old Emperor, she then had to witness the only English Pope take her sarcophagus for himself. She's now writing The Plays of Nicholas Breakspear.

Necessary architecture books
As to books, I had and still have many, and at this point I'm seriously thinking of taking a lot of them apart and then mixing and rearranging all the various pages into a series of new books. Maybe I'm foolish, but I nonetheless imagine there's a great untapped realm beyond the status quo.

...compose books that are completely cathartic, spontaneous, and indeed schizophrenic. Essentially, they will be a large set of web pages, but the pages will include text, images, dxf files, large scans, web art, virtual places, virtual tours, notes, letters, copyright free texts and images, digital collages, poetry, designs, etc., etc...

1958. Thursday, Sainte-Maxime
In the evening, Bill Copley, just arrived from Paris, gives Duchamp the details of his meeting with Erik Losfeld, who is planning to publish the writings edited by Michel Sanouillet [25.7.1958].
As the manuscript has only recently been submitted for his approval and he has signed no contract with Losfeld, Duchamp believes he will be able to arrange matters in September, and he writes assuring Lebel who is concerned that Sanouillet's book may have dire effects on his own, which is being prepared with Fawcus. In order that Fawcus has no excuse for procrastination, Duchamp urges Lebel to complete the texts, bibliography and catalogue raisonné as soon as possible. "The most important thing is to push Fawcus as much as possible," he advises, "I have written to him to this effect and, in spite of everything, have accepted the date of 22 Sept[ember] morning," which is the day proposed for a press conference.

Following their unexpected telephone conversation on Tuesday, Duchamp is due to visit Joseph Cornell at Utopia Parkway in Flushing. Cornell is counting on the visit to provide him with "much needed inspiration" to finish the boxes he is working on.
