1947. Wednesday, New York City
"Here it is completely quiet, the summer that you know. Not a soul," Marcel tells Roché. "One goes out in shirtsleeves and I never go beyond 14th Street." While asking for news of the Surrealist exhibition, which has just opened in Paris [7.7.1947], Marcel remarks that "Kiesler is a very good chap" and that he has a right to their support, because he is disliked by certain "right-minded people", their "so-called friends, very modern men just as long as it sells".
