Siemering's Washington Monument on Eakins Oval in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art carries a strong resemblance to the Nationaldenkmal Kaiser Wilhelms I formerly (now destroyed) in Berlin which Duchamp briefly wrote about on a postcard (depicting the Nationaldenkmal Kaiser Wilhelms I) to his grandmother 1912.09.27.

I possess a photograph of cousin-once-removed Anna Able with her brother Wilhelm and two of my mother's hometown (Brestowatz, Serbia) classmates posed in front of Berlin's Nationaldenkmal Kaiser Wilhelms I, circa 1941. Contemporary with my mother in Munich, Anna was employed as a domestic by some wealthy Berlin household. I no longer remember the position Anna held, but my mother was then cook for the Baron von Ow family. Both Anna and my mother were sixteen or seventeen years old at that time. I twice stayed with Anna and her husband Klaus Timtschyschyn at their Munich apartment July 1963 and Christmas-New Years 1975-1976.

From The Discovery of Piranesi's Final Project:
27 September 2022     Tuesday
It's been starting to feel like I'm losing touch with Piranesi, and that itself is worrisome.
But wait a minute. That feeling makes perfect sense, because right now in 1778 Piranesi is very likely beginning to show signs of fading away from this life (so to speak).
Last Friday night I wondered whether Piranesi, while looking through his works for instances of ancient circuses, was at the same time sending Francesco out to the various sites to see if there was any new data to record. That would explain why it's otherwise 'quiet' at the workshop.
Then it dawned on me how Francesco's been the leading animating force of this story.

Class: I guess, now-a-days and all-around, class is largely measured by what one buys [or is bumped up into].

1912. Friday, Berlin
On a card representing the imposing memorial to Kaiser Wilhelm I, Marcel writes to his grandmother Nicolle and the Paulin Bertrands in Neuilly: "This is to give you an idea of the modern Berlin style, a mixture of Greek, rococo and, dominating all architecture, the souvenir of the sovereign of each period. I will be returning to Neuilly in a few days, happy to find the calm there again to work."
