1919. Sunday, Buenos Aires
Having entrusted Miss Dreier with several of his optical experiments [4.4.1919], in his own luggage Duchamp takes the set of wooden chessmen that he designed and carved, except for the Knights, which were made by a local craftsman. For Marguerite Mellerio in Paris, he is bringing a circular tablecloth embroidered for her by her cousin, one of Zeo Enrico's five daughters, a family living in Buenos Aires. Due to sail at three o'clock in the afternoon, Duchamp boards the Highland Pride, a ship of the Nelson Line captained by R. N. Robinson.
