Re: bad behaviorism...
I have long known of the plight of the mentally ill in this country. Perhaps you can now better understand why I have forsaken my career as a real architect, i.e., to make sure my brother Otto is always taken care of at home.

Robert Lebel organizes a big party at his home at 4 Avenue du Président Wilson, in honour of Duchamp and Man Ray. Among the guests are Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs and Gregory Corso, who become tipsy. Ginsberg kisses Duchamp and gets Duchamp to kiss Burroughs. Becoming increasingly drunk, the three Beat Generation writers crawl along the floor between the other guests in pursuit of Duchamp. When Ginsberg feels up his trouser leg and calls him "Maître", Duchamp almost kicks him, hating the pretension.

A symbol for all newcomers, the monumental Statue of Liberty, holding a lamp in an outstretched arm high above her head, dominates Bedloe's Island in New York harbour. On nearby Ellis Island all aliens are "processed" by the immigration officers. Found to be of sound mind, in good physical health, five feet teen inches high, with brown hair, chestnut eyes, and fifty dollars in his pocket, Duchamp is granted admission to the United States of America.
As the Rochambeau docks, it becomes so hot that Duchamp thinks there must be a fire blazing nearby. On the quayside, waiting to greet him, is Walter Pach his friend, correspondent [21.5.1915] and cicerone.
He takes Duchamp immediately to 33 West 67th Street, the home of Walter Arensberg, a Harvard man, Imagist poet and collector, who wants to meet the Frenchman who has been famous in America since the Amory Show [17.2.1913], and offer him his hospitality.

Benjamin Franklin demonstrates his theory that lightening and electricity are the same thing by drawing lightening from the clouds with a key and a kite during a lightening storm. His letter describing his experiment was read before the Royal Society of London that December. Legend has it that the experiment took place on a lot on the east side of Ridge Avenue, near the intersection with Buttonwood Street, and that Franklin was assisted by his son William.
