A souvenir of the Brooklyn Rail's New Social Environment #1367, Marcel Duchamp...

...which I found to be a very positive experience.

Since MoMA's 1951 replica of Bicycle Wheel has a curved fork while other replicas of Bicycle Wheel have straight forks, Thierry de Duve asked the three curators, Affron, Kuo and Temkin, if they knew whether the original 1913 Bicycle Wheel had a straight or curved fork. Since there is no graphic record of the original Bicycle Wheel, whether the original fork was straight or curved remains unknown. De Duve then wondered whether curved forks even existed in 1913. The curators could not supply an answer to that query either. Hence, here's the most direct answer to de Duve's questioning:

The bicycle Marshall "Major" Taylor is 'riding' (on the front of the November 1, 1898, edition of the French sports magazine La Vie au grand air) has a curved fork. And, the bicycle that Duchamp drew within To Have the Apprentice in the Sun (1914) also has a curved fork.

Alas, we now have more evidence supporting the case that To Have the Apprentice in the Sun is based on the 1898 image of Marshall "Major" Taylor.
