451.rhawn.gallery . . . with MARY BOONE'S 180 HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE no longer hanging on the gallery walls, the 94 paintings have returned to their original price of 3,097,160 USD tax included. As Gertrude Stein used to say, "They should have gotten it while it was cheap, like me." And, on 21 April 1911, Duchamp showed three paintings, two of which are landscapes entitled FALAISE and PAYSAGE. The title of the third canvas, which he says he "added and treated like an invisible colour", is LE BUISSON. Duchamp stressed that he "did not, in the painting illustrate a definite theme, but the disposition of the three elements evoked... the possibility to invent a theme for it afterwards." How cute is that? Turns out the writings of 'unbekannt' first appeared online just over 20 years ago within the now obscure artforum.com/talkback.
