"As the Stotesburys began to entertain more often, Lord Joseph Duveen convinced Mrs. [Eva]Stotesbury that her "petit palais" no longer suited the grand dimensions of their new life. It was then that Mr. Stotesbury purchased 300 acres outside Chestnut Hill to build what would become known as Whitemarsh Hall.
